Not much has happened with the car since then, although I heard recently that it was started after years of sitting, then immediately driven cross-country .

ha! quite the process. it was pretty straightforward for me. Used a registered importer and the biggest pain was scheduling the INTERPOL check to see if it had been stolen before importing and then having to go to two different DMV offices because Texas required me to affix a secondary VIN-confirmation type plate to the vehicle before handing over the title. Other than that it was easy as pie.
